About

Who we are

Population growth, misguided policy, rampant consumerism, lack of legislation for controlling food production, climate change, loss of biodiversity, lack of education, scarcity of jobs—all of these affect our health, contribute to social inequality and threaten the well-being of current and future generations. If these tendencies are to be reversed, they demand the uncompromising attention of society and the consensus of those in power in every part of the world for appropriate action.

In order to address this situation, the Foundation “Ciencia para el SER” has been created as a non-profit NGO for the public good, with financial backing from Alfredo Alberto Román. Throughout his 60-year-long career in business, Román has repeatedly sought to create a culture of knowledge and work that is sustained by values that encompass the entire community. His efforts concerning human development have resulted in the creation of various foundations, the latest of these, called “Trabajo y Desarrollo Humano”, has addressed issues related to today’s problems.

The current foundation has taken on an aim and a name that can be adopted as his or her own by anyone who decides to join it. The wish is to include within the open structure of this foundation any and all who identify with the values it propounds and who wish to join together on a global scale for action focused on addressing problems like those mentioned.

The foundation will establish alliances and courses of action with political actors and public and private institutions both national and international, raising the necessary funds and winning the investment needed to create a robust membership that works together to achieve common goals.

This Foundation has been established for a 99-year term, and, as stated in the bylaws, it is the Founder’s will that successive Boards of Directors extend its duration before the expiration of the specified term, in accordance with the Legacy that supports it, ensuring its permanence over time.
